Kristina AAT Blog (Dec 2019)

From stock to spreadsheets

There are many routes to becoming a fully qualified Management Accountant but the one that Kristina, our Accounts Manager took is particularly inspiring.

Born in Jelgava, Latvia, Kristina moved to the UK in October 2010 aged 20. She joined the Carlton Forest team in 2011 as a warehouse operative, picking and despatching orders for customers before moving into stock control and all the administration associated with that. It was in March 2017 when a vacancy arose for an accounts assistant and the rest, as they say, is history. Kristina successfully applied and then studied to become a fully qualified AAT (Association of Accountancy Technicians) accountant. She is also a committee member of the AAT Sheffield Branch.

Kristina commented; “I absolutely love my job and it’s been such a great opportunity to study and become fully qualified whilst working. I couldn’t have done it without the support of the senior team and now, with my lovely colleagues Sarah, Katie and Alysha, we handle all the day-to-day accounts for all aspects of the business.
“Studying whilst working was a ‘win-win’ situation for me. Being able to put the theory into practice really helped with my understanding and my confidence as I was learning.”

Kristina is now planning to carry on studying and do the CIMA qualification to become a Chartered Accountant.

“Being at the heart of family run business has allowed me to learn and manage every aspect of accountancy making me feel like I have really achieved something. It’s great to be part of a team that wants everyone to do well and succeed and I feel proud to be part of the company.”

Before the pandemic Kristina and her husband loved to travel and returned regularly to Latvia to visit her family and friends. Over the last year they have visited UK places whenever they can.

Taking life one day at a time Kristina also likes to follow meditation, self-care and mindfulness.
